Saturday, August 9, 2008

Today is a rest day. I'm just running around town doing errands and trying to rest and kick this virus and sinus infection.

Sunday, August 10, 2008

Today is another rest day. I'm packing up and getting ready to drive to Twin Bridges, MT early tomorrow morning, it's about 95 miles southwest. I'll be fishing there on Monday and Tuesday, then traveling to Cameron, MT for 2 days of fishing the Madison River on Thursday and Friday.

Monday, August 11, 2008

Today I left Bozeman, MT very early, it was still dark out. I drove Northwest to a little town called Twin Bridges, population 300. It was a beautiful sunrise drive, there were literally hundreds of deer out in the fields feeding as the sun rose.

Monday, August 11, 2008

I arrived at The 4Rivers Fly Shop at 7:30. I'll be staying in a very nice apartment over the fly shop for the next couple days since there isn't a hotel within 60 miles.

Monday, August 11, 2008

Today I fished the Jefferson River with Frank from the 4Rivers Fly Shop.

Monday, August 11, 2008

Here's our lunch stop for the day.

Monday, August 11, 2008

Fishing was slow day and it was very windy making the fishing quite difficult. I still managed about 12 nice fish.

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

Today I fished the Big Hole River. The scenery on this river was much nicer than the Jefferson. I saw two Golden Eagles, one was sitting on a log only 30 feet away but flew off before I could photograph him.

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

Here was our lunch stop for today.

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

The fishing was much better today. Turned a lot of fish but only landed 15. My timing to hook them was really off, I think I was very tired today.

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

Today was a travel day. I left Twin Bridges and drove about 100 miles south to Cameron, MT, it's right on the bank of the Madison River. It was a beautiful drive as I dropped down into the Madison Valley.

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

I'm staying at Kelley Galloup's Slide Inn, which is right on the banks of the Madison River in Cameron, Montana near the Idaho border. I wanted to learn more about fishing with or "throwing streamers" and these guys are the experts.

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

My accomodations are quite diffeent than places I've been staying at.

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

But the location and view more than make up for it. This is the view from my back porch.

Thursday, August 14, 2008

Today I fished the Madison River with Steve (Skinny) from the Slide Inn. I wanted to learn to "throw big streamers", streamers are flies that imitate fish. When you fish with streamers you're fishing for fish that are large enough to be carnivores. We floated 12 miles down the Madison River.

Thursday, August 14, 2008

This is what a streamer looks like. The one I used today looked like a baby rainbow trout about 4" long.

Thursday, August 14, 2008

I had a great day today and turned about 40 fish. Here's one of the brown trout I caught with the streamer still in his mouth.

Thursday, August 14, 2008

Here's another brown trout I caught.

Thursday, August 14, 2008

These fish are Very aggressive. When I landed this fish we realized that he already had a 4" long fish in his mouth only half swallowed and he still chased after my streamer. He was sure greedy. You can see the tail of the fish he had eaten sticking out of his mouth as well as my streamer still in his mouth.

Thursday, August 14, 2008

Here is the view from our lunch stop.

Friday, August 15, 2008

Today I fished with Scott from Slide Inn and his trusty sidekick "Hex". Scott helped me learn more about throwing streamers today. We floated 15 miles down the Madison River.

Friday, August 15, 2008

Here's another brown trout I caught, still with the streamer in it's mouth.

Friday, August 15, 2008

Here's the view from our lunch stop.

Friday, August 15, 2008

Poor Hex had a long day fishing.
